David Malone’s talk is over an hour long and is followed by an additional 30 minute Q&A session. The man has researched the subject thoroughly and his talk is information dense but very clear. It’s really worth watching this because it details the very real dangers of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreements. Malone shows that the purpose of the TTIP is to consolidate the power of global corporations undermining the power of states to govern in the best interests of their people. It took me more than the video’s 90 minute length to watch this through, not only because I was also watching episodes of a stupid American TV series but because I was checking some of the references Malone gives.
Under the TTIP a company will have the right to sue governments if an agreement is not kept or if a government makes a decision that interferes with the company’s expected profits – this can include decisions on taxation and regulations pertaining to consumer protection. The NHS as a public service is definitely under threat from TTIP. But most of all democracy as we know it is under threat.
