What do people with extraordinary minds like Daniel Tammet teach us about consciousness and human potential? It seems obvious that focus, obsession with a particular subject or activity, is key to achieving mastery. It appears that most savants are autistic and the focus that unlocks a particular ability lock out much of the rest of the external world. Daniel is rare in that he has extraordinary abilities but retains the ability to function and communicate effectively in the social world.
